This will be the park at the Gipsy settlement. Even Daróczi Ági is on the point of planting there. There are plenty of children - there will be a playground as well. The authorities, the power used to dream landfill there for industrial waste, post-industrial garbage and dangerous junk. They did it. Aftermath it seemed to be a good idea if it would do as a Gipsy settlement. The mine and the government had created one of the country’s largest slums here on top of waste material. The authorities, the power liked it. Newer and newer families have been to move there because they haven’t got work, they haven’t got incomes. They have no housing benefit from the government. The flowers began to bloom just here.

The celebration continued on yard of the Cultural Centre int he village with dance and music programs, and at noon we enjoyed cauldron goulash, special Hungarian cuisine. There was a festive and creature moods despite the heat. Finally spectators occupied the stage.
In the evening we talked about Buddhism, humanity, empathy, respect for each other and the inner harmony with The Gate of Dharma Buddhist College’s teachers and students. We listened to the scientific lectures from Ruzsa Ferenc, the chief director of The Gate of Dharma Buddhist College and from Körtvélyesi Tibor, who is a Sanskrit language teacher. The day ended with meditation, by Száraz Róbert.
I had tried to put too much into the day; like an overfilled suitcase that won’t close, bits of my life were bursting out of the seams, trailing behind me in the street. I had the slightly unfocussed look of someone who is almost on top of things. Delayed leaving work, I was late getting to the BBC and late arriving at the Buddhist Centre. As I drove in, I reflected that this was not the best night to welcome four visitors to the continuation Buddhism class – especially when one of them was Subhuti, the man who has arguably done more to shape the FWBO than any other individual. I found them in Earth:
- Subhuti, would you like to lead anything?
- I’d like not to lead anything
(Damn, I was going to have to lead the meditation. Why had I let Hasavajra have his turn last week?)
Subhuti was in Manchester with two mitras from Hungary, Janesh and Tibor, who work with the marginalised gypsy community. To address issues of exclusion, they founded the Ambedkar High School, named after Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
